So hey guys. A bit late, but I've been swamped with work lately.
Anyway, incase you were a bit confused when you visited the "Desert Colossus" on tuesday, it was an April Fools day joke played by EDN with LoZ.com and TDC.
To give a little background on the joke; I had an idea about two years back for several sites to impersonate another site on April Fools. Obviously the prank works better the more sites that join. Originally there were 10 sites I emailed for this prank. Only 3 responded, and 1 had to drop out later. However I think the prank went very well for the 3 of us that did it.
The joke consisted of three parts. The first and most obvious part was the site swap. Each site would impersonate another site, by changing the code, banner or entire layout. For this joke, Exploding Deku Nut impersonated The Desert Colossus who impersonated LegendofZelda.com who impersonated Exploding Deku Nut.
Second, webmasters would pretend as if they had ALWAYS run the site. Hence you may have seen us post on the forums pretending we owned the hoax site, leading to mass confusion for some.
Third, each of us would make a front page post containing the following phrases:
"Perhaps next time he'll bring a fairy……in a bottle! Hahahaha!" "There are no cheap victories for your gold medals." "Leever?! I hardly even know her!" "If I had a nickel for every time that was said, I'd have half a nickel!"
What the post was about was entirely up to the writer.
And that was it. The layouts were up for the whole day before we revealed it was all a huge lie created by your favorite webmasters.
Anyway, the joke site along with screenshots of the other two sites will be up in the April Fool's Day section this weekend. Thanks to everyone who played along, and for those who are wondering, yes I do have next years prank planned out already.
PS. BTW, apologies to Shou Amabane from The Desert Colossus forums. Sorry man, we tried to drop as many hints as we could. We can tell you now, that the three of us were not hacked in any shape or form. But that it was a terrible April Fools Day trick played by the webmasters themselves. |
