Howling Stones

No matter what order you activate the howling stones in, you will be taught the hidden skills in the same order. After you match the "howling tune" twice, a golden wolf will appear on your mini-map. Go to this wolf to learn the next skill in the sequence. The first wolf appears without a stone, and you are taught his skill inevitably during the course of the game.

1. Ending Blow - The first wolf will appear at the beginning of the path to the Forest Temple in the Faron Woods. He will leap at you and you will be taken to a white area with a skeletal soldier. Do not worry, he is not there to harm you, only to teach you the Ending Blow.

2. Shield Attack - You'll come across the first of 6 howling stones on the way to Death Mountain. It's in the rugged area filled with geysers. The wolf will appear in the Ordon Province and, once you lift the veil of twilight from the Eldin Province, you'll be able to learn the Shield Attack. This becomes very useful throughout the game.

3. Back Slice - The second howling stone, located on a hill near Iza's Rapid Ride, will unlock the Back Slice. You'll be able to reach it once you thaw Zora's domain, and the river leading away from there. The wolf will be on the platform near Castle Town's east gate, or west for Gamecube. This technique is very useful during boss fights.

4. Helm Splitter - On your way to the Sacred Grove to retrieve the Master Sword, you'll find another howling stone near the entrance to the Lost Woods. The wolf will appear near the south entrance of Castle Town, on the grounds below the courtyard.

5. Mortal Draw - This stone can be found near the base of Lake Hylia. There is a small cliff with a skinny ladder leading to the top. At the top you'll encounter a large tower, and the howling stone. The wolf can be found just south of the enemy camp in the Gerudo Desert. The ideal time to actvate the stone is when you seek Auru at the tower near the stone. You can activate it, get the move, then test it on the baddies in the camp.

6. Jump Strike - The only one on a mountain, this howling stone can be found near the underground cave. The wolf will appear in Kakariko Graveyard, and the soldier will teach you the Jump Strike. This is a more powerful version on the standard jump attack, can hit multiple enemies at once, and must be charged for a short time before use.

7. Great Spin - This stone is hidden in the Hidden Village. What a surprise. It's behind a bar-like building. Just bust through a window and howl the tune to summon the wolf. He will appear near Hyrule Castle. Open both gates and you can't miss him. The great spin is a very powerful version of the spin attack, but only takes affect when you're at full health.
