"The most important thing you can say about Zelda Europe is that the webmaster has FUN doing what she does, and it certainly shows. The website is playful with little Zelda trinkets thrown in here and there all across the site, which quickly transforms an ordinary Zelda site into an extraordinary one. And with over 15 million hits in but a single year of serving the Zelda community, apparently I'm not the only one to think so."
- The Missing Link, Webmaster of Zelda Blog -
Non-english sites often don't get the regoniztion that they deserve.
One of the main problems is simply the langauge barrier that exists in the Zelda Community. With a majority of Zelda sites exisitng in english, many foreign sites are often ignored simply because people can't read the content.
Zelda Europe plans to change that.
Launched in the July of 2006, Zelda Europe has become one of most forefront German speaking sites on the web. In it's short lifespan, the site has already garnered alot of attention, with a thousand active forum members and fifteen million hits as of this posting.
Despite its young age, Zelda Europe could easily be mistaken for a much older Zelda site. ZE features countless pages of content: Information for all the games, an extensive media libary consisting of music, videos, pictures, fonts and even winamp skins. A fan works section that ranges from your standard fanfiction/poetry, to rarer works such as fan videos.
Of course, Zelda Europe is not content to remain solely a German Zelda site. Rather one of their most ambious goals is transforming Zelda Europe into a Zelda site for everyone in the world. Evelyn Jade, the webmaster of ZE has expressed the dream of turning Zelda Europe into a site that can connect Zelda sites of all sorts of langauges. One of the first steps towards this goal is the complete translation of the site into english, an ambious project that she hopes will bridge the gap between the english speaking and the international parts of the Zelda community.
Despite being online for less than a year, Zelda Europe looks like the site that can accomplish that goal.
Therefore, it is my pleasure to award this years Golden Ocarina for Most Aspiring Site to Zelda Europe. Congratulations to Evelyn Jade and the members of ZE. Best of luck in the years to come.
