Despite historical evidence to the contrary, I am constantly under the delusion that the next Golden Item Awards will be the year I can’t find a single new unique site. The Zelda franchise has been around for over 20 years now, with the community following close behind. One would assume that every possible website iteration has been done at this point. “There is nothing new under the sun.” I believe is the term.
So leave it to Zelda Party Channel to prove me wrong.
For those who are not in the know, Zelda Party Channel is a website that does exactly what it advertises. It comes up with nifty Zelda party ideas and crafts. The website is divided into three sections: recipes, gifts/crafts and party ideas. It’s a thoroughly refreshing concept, which makes me wonder why no one has done it before.
The site focuses on “Do it yourself” party ideas and foods. All the recipes come with pictorial step by step instructions, allowing one to completely replicate Spirit Tracks Cupcakes or Red Potion punch. The crafts section is very clever, wither it’s making Potion Bottle Charms with mini bottles, or Triforce soap for all your cleaning needs.
Finally, there is the website namesake: the party section. There are quite a few clever games here, should anyone (including all you readers) wish to throw their own Zelda themed party. Some of these ideas are well known games, such as scrabble and bingo, with a Zelda twist. Others are completely made up, for example: Phantom Tag, pitting “phantoms” and “Four Swords Links” in a battle for force gems.
In all, Zelda Party Channel is a breath of fresh air in the Zelda community. It managed to surprise me with its originality and clever ideas. At three months, ZPC is also the youngest site to ever win this award. I certainly hope it will continue onward for many more months, providing us all with nifty Zelda themed crafts and food.
Thus, it is my pleasure to award this year’s Golden Deku Nut for Most Unique Site to Zelda Party Channel. Congratulations to Midnafan321 and best of luck in the years to come.
